An extract from a speech by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may his soul rest in peace, on the occasion of the Graduation of the 2nd group of students from the Sultan Qaboos University, 30 October 1991

"Forming and training man is a laborious process. Yet, it is a necessary process. We shall, for our part, spare no effort to provide opportunities for the training of Omanis at all levels of education, particularly higher education.

In our instructions to government and non-government institutions whom we require to assist our graduates in forwarding their careers, we emphasise that they must prepare practical plans and programmes to help them assimilate as soon as possible the requirements of their future positions.

We call upon Omani youth to take advantage of every available opportunity in order to be able to face up to any tasks assigned to them, since work is both an honour and an obligation, and is, moreover, enjoined upon us by Almighty God".
