MUSCAT: Students from different schools in the governorates across the Sultanate began their new academic year on Sunday. The number of public school students is estimated at 604,767, an increase of 16,428 over last year. A total of 304,050 male and 300,717 female students have been enrolled in 1,159 schools, which is 34 more than last year. The number of basic education schools is expected to reach 1,032.

The number of 10-12 grade schools is 107, which is eight more than last year. The number of teachers this year is 56,091, and administrative/ technical staff 10,868. The number of morning schools is 1,123, which is 27 more than last year, while the number of evening schools is likely to reach 36 by this year-end. Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, congratulated the educators working in the field of education as well as the new teachers.
