MUSCAT: The Education Council has held its third meeting of the year under the chairmanship of Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Education Council. 

The Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Education Council expressed, on behalf of the Education Council, his sincere congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos on the occasion of the new Hijri year 1440, praying to Allah The Almighty to protect His Majesty and bestow on him good health, wellness and a long life, and to make this year a year of goodness prosperity and development for Oman and its people and the Arab and Islamic nations and the world at large.

Based on the council’s interest in expanding the horizons of higher education and upgrading its system in line with the development aspirations and trends in the country, the council approved the establishment of the Technical College in the Governorate of Musandam to contribute to providing the Omani labour market with Omani competencies in the technological and technical fields, in line with the economic developments taking place in the Sultanate.

In light of the keenness to develop specifications and standards related to the construction of buildings of higher education institutions to contribute to the preparation of appropriate educational facilities and in accordance with the international standards in force in this regard, the council adopted the regulation of technical specifications and standards of buildings of higher education institutions as a reference for these governmental and private institutions when they build their permanent facilities or the expansion and development of its existing facilities.

The council directed to proceed with the completion of appropriate procedures for their applications.

The council also discussed the regulation of student housing, which aims to establish the appropriate conditions for these accommodations and in order to ensure the provision of an environment suitable for students. The council directed to take appropriate actions in their regard.

In a related context, the council reviewed the memorandum of its Secretariat-General on the most prominent projects that are engaged by the education authorities to implement during the current stage and discuss the required support.
