Muscat: The national workshop on science, technology and innovation (STI) indicators is currently underway at the Institute of Oil and Gas in Sultan Qaboos University.

The event was launched under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ali Al Sunaidi Minister of Commerce and Industry, and deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Planning.

Dr. Sharifa Al Harthi, Director of the National Innovation Strategy (NIS) said: "The total spending on Research and Development in 2017 in Oman has reached 63.6 million, equating to 0.22 per cent of the national income."

The STI workshop is being organised by The Research Council in collaboration with the Supreme Council for Planning, UNESCO Institute for Statistics, UNESCO Natural Science Sector, and the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

The workshop will run for two days, on October 3 and 4.
