An Omani Researcher was awarded the Down Syndrome Research Prize Foundation 2017 on the sideline of the 65th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean meetings, recently held in Khartoum, the Republic of Sudan, The prize granted to Dr. Salma bint Humaid al-Harrasi, Head of Genetic Laboratories of the Royal Hospital.

The prize is an acknowledgment of her distinct contribution in the field of cell and molecular genetics in the Sultanate over 20 years’ experience in down syndrome.

Dr. al-Harrasi graduated from Sultan Qaboos University in 1995. In 2004, she obtained the master degree from University of Glasgow, UK, and the PhD from Free University of Berlin and Institute of Medical Genetics and Human Genetics at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany in 2010.
