Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) recorded a 56 per cent drop in the number of students under academic supervision in 2018, a senior official recently confirmed.

Dr. Saud Al Jufaily, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean, Registration, said, “A student is placed under academic supervision for several reasons, including not following the study plan, registering for more than one scientific course in one semester, reporting a poor level of English, and for an imbalance between the classroom and extracurricular activities.”

Al-Jufaily added, “The University has developed mechanisms to help students who are faced with academic supervision. The most prominent of these is the introduction of a university elective course on university laws that aims at introducing students to academic university laws.”

“(SQU) applied the idea of ‘expert supervisor’ or ‘administrator’ in each department of the different colleges, so that they may be responsible for following students under academic supervision and supporting them so that they can overcome that stage,” he further added.
