Muscat: The time to apply for the 3rd Water Research and Innovation Award will be closed today. This comes in the light of the success achieved by the award in its first and second session during the last two years.

The award is organised by the Research Council (TRC) and the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science (SQHCCS) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

TRC announced at the end of December that the deadline for application will be extended till January 10 to give further chance for various groups to submit their applications via TRC website. Applicants can apply for two categories: Scientific Publishing and Innovation. The total number of cash prizes awarded to the winners is OMR20,000.

The award for Scientific Publishing includes scientific papers published in refereed journals related to the needs of the Sultanate in the field of water and includes two categories: PhD researchers and non-PhD researchers. The cash amount for both categories (OMR4000), OMR1000 for the first place only in each category.

The Innovations Award is divided into Innovation category and young innovator category. Innovation category includes innovative models, products or services with operational advantages for individuals, research project teams, academic researchers, companies and small and medium enterprises.

The young innovator category is devoted for school students (grades 10-12) to raise awareness of water issues from an early age. The value of the prize for both categories in this category is OMR16000.

In the category of innovation OMR5000 is to the winner of the first place, OMR4000 for the second place, and OMR3000 for the third place. As for the Young Innovator Category for school students, OMR1200 will be given to the winner of the first place, OMR1000 for the second place, OMR800 for the third place. OMR500 will be given to 4th and 5th places each.

The Water Research and Innovation Award aims to enhance the role of scientific research, encourage and support innovative initiatives to find solutions to water issues and raise awareness of water issues in the Sultanate.
