MUSCAT - The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has accredited the first bachelor's level surveying related degree programme in the region to the Military Technological College (MTC), Oman. The BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying (QS) programme at MTC is a three-year, full time degree, with its first batch of students graduating in December 2018.

Graduates of MTC, with the RICS-accredited degree, will now be able to enrol for the Chartered Surveyor Assessment of Professional Competence and qualify after two-years of structured training experience gained whilst in the workplace.

“Achieving RICS accreditation in time with the first graduation of the QS programme is a significant milestone in achieving the vision of MTC to be internationally positioned amongst the best all-service providers of academic and technological education. It is an incentive for us to keep on top of our business and continue the good practice,” said Dr Atef Badr, head of Civil Engineering and Quantity Surveying Department at MTC.

“Moreover, this accreditation is a tangible evidence in assuring our main client, the Ministry of Defence, of the quality of QS graduates they are receiving from MTC,” Dr Badr added.

“The accreditation of the MTC QS course is a landmark achievement. A lot of hard work by the MTC team has been rewarded with the first QS accredited course in the GCC. This should lead to students in Oman being able to study at home and improve the level of graduates entering the market, bringing highly qualified graduates into the Omani workforce,” said Kevin Ellis, Chair of RICS Oman Board.
