Muscat- The departments of History and Mass Communication at the College of Arts and Social Science at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) have been accredited by the German Agency AQAS (Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programs) for the period 2019-2025.

The process of accreditation of the two departments started at the mid of the last year where both departments had prepared and submitted their own academic and research components of the BA and MA programs.

These reports have been reviewed and remarked by the German Agency before the two separate teams of experts made a field visit at the end of October 2018 to evaluate the departments’ programs. In addition, the programs of the visit included multiple meetings with SQU administration, Deanship of the College of Arts and Social Science, heads of the departments and the members concerned of the quality unit, as well as meeting with the students, graduates, labor market and advisory committees in each department.

Moreover, with the accreditation of these departments, the college completed its efforts, which started years ago, in accomplishing the academic accreditation at the level of the college and specialized programs. The college has already accomplished the institutional accreditation and program accreditation for the Tourism department in 2016 followed by accreditation of the programs of the Geography, Sociology and Social Work, Information Studies and Music and Musicology departments in 2017.

Besides, the programs of the departments of Arabic Language and Literature and English Language and Literature with its Translation and Literature branches have been reviewed and evaluated between 2017 and 2018 by specialists from outside the Sultanate.
